1a. Mr. Olympia Problems

My problem with the Olympia isn't with the results, it is the treatment of the 202 class.

For one thing, the victor doesn't even get the Olympia title at all. He also only gets $10,000 (compared to $155,000 for the open Mr. Olympia) in cash and the rest of the competitors get nothing at all for participating (10th place open Olympia gets $14,000 after 10 all get $4,000).

I'm glad the open Olympia contestants are doing so well. In recent history some of them didn't receive anything for competing. Shawn Ray once famously said that the usher at the Mr. Olympia makes more than most of the athletes. It was shameful and it still is for the 202 class.

There are ways the promoters could balance the purse so that all the competitors get SOMETHING for this show and the IFBB needs to put the pressure on to grow the recognition for the 202 class.

If you are concerned about this and would like to put pressure on the IFBB, I recommend contacting IFBB President Dr. Rafael Satonja. The email I have for him is internacional@santonja.com

Bodybuilding athletes at the elite level are pouring in a huge investment of time, passion, money and some physical risk and have achieved amazing results. As fans and participants in the sport it benefits us in many ways to encourage good working conditions and fair treatment for the athletes we support.

Thanks!

Don, I'd have to agree. A lot of these competitors put in some much time and
effort and money and don't get much to show for it. It is a "sport" that doesn't
really have a good return on investment. However, it definitely shows you the
potential of the human body with the right, everything to reach the magnitude
that is achieved.

Recently an email notification came out from the group for the file under "QUICK ROUTINE FOR INCREASING BICEPS SIZE". This file describes a method for pulsing during biceps curls, which seems just like x-reps, except the x-reps book lists other exercises for other muscles.

If you have experience with these, what did you think of it?

The Mr. Olympia results for this past weekend. The 202 Olympia class was won for the second time by Kevin English who narrowly outmassed a super conditioned and freaky looking David Henry. Eduardo Correa took a competitive third but couldn't quite catch the top two athletes.

The open Olympia looked to be a two man contest between Cutler and Heath. Cutler also won with his combination of mass and cuts over an improved Phil Heath. Heath was very close here and was impressive enough to take the title. Heath is closing in on Cutler's thickness and muscularity and then his superior aesthetics put him in a great place to topple Cutler. It was close on the weekend and it will be closer the next time they meet. Ronny Rockel surprised me at least with smashing into the top 6 ahead of Kai Greene and Victor Martinez who both finished lower than expected.

For these guys to be under 202 lbs, they look pretty huge. Awesome job!

What types of program were you following before?

You could try the standard 3x10 on the basic compound lifts, plus some cardio/circuit training, to get you used to the work again. Once you're back into the habit, then move on to different sets and reps or what you did before.

I wanted to add that this is exactly the routine I have started with when I have been on a long layoff from training.

Good examples of compound movements are

Bench Presses
Squats
Deadlifts
Shoulder Press

Okay to also throw in some
Biceps Curls
Triceps Pushdowns
Crunches
Lat Pulldowns
Leg Curls
Calf Raises

The compound movements should be where your initial emphasis is.

Judge on how your body reacts. Don't push too hard to begin with because you don't want to set yourself back with an injury when you're getting started again.

At the beginning, make sure the weight is something you can pretty easily use for 10 reps. As your body gets used to training then you can start increasing poundages, reps, exercises.

I would also start out exercising 3x a week with at least a day's rest in between. Do cardio at the end of your workout or on your days off of weight training.
