Hello athletes!

My name is Eva Gut and I am a doctoral student studying sport psychology at the University of Idaho. My major professor and I are asking for your support in developing a new questionnaire with the purpose of identifying athletes' motivational styles. Motivational style is directly related to goal setting which most, if not all, athletes and teams are constantly involved in. The survey will NOT ask for any names, so your responses will be completely anonymous. The survey should take about 15-20 minutes. We are asking for current athletes over the age of 18 (e.g., college or post-college athletes) to fill out the questionnaire. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. If you would like a copy of the results, please contact me at egut@vandals.uidaho.edu or include your e-mail address at the end of the questionnaire and the results will be sent to you once the study is completed. The questionnaire can be accessed at the following web link:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VFLZP37

If you have questions feel free to contact me, the principal investigator, by email at egut@vandals.uidaho.edu

Thank you for your time and assistance,

Eva

This past weekend, July 19th NPC held the Junior Nationals contest. This prestigious contest has a long history of being the first national appearance of future pros. Past winners have included Paul DeMayo, Porter Cottrell and more recently, Evan Centopani. Michael Liberatore also made his first splash here. So watch out for these guys, there is a lot of potential here.
Matthew Lowden, a heavyweight competitor I was unfamiliar with took the overall. Below is the list of the class winners, some photos and some video links. For LOTS of photos and a complete list of the competitors check out Muscular Development's page

Have you asked your doctor what would be good to take? If there is one in this forum or someone with the same issue, they would probably be the best to advise.

Just out of curiosity, why were you told that it is not suitable for kidney patients?

I'm 27 years old and have been training for last 3 to 4 years but believe me i haven't got noticeable shape. I'm thinking about taking Mega Mass, but i have heard somewhere that it is not suitable for kidney patient's and have other side effects too. I had kidney stone problem in past. Can anyone tell me either use of such supplements effects kidney or not? also what should i add in my diet. I would be thankful if anyone can provide me diet plan.

Waiting for your reply, Thanks

....do what your dr says for the ongoing kidney stone issue....make sure
you eat the diet the dr or a dietitian that knows the issues of diet and kidney stones....
....to get in shape u should not lift too heavy too quick and get hurt
and have to stop lifting....u have to lift progressively heavier to build muscle...can
do that by eating some certain way other than balanced diet......lifting weight is what u should concern yourself
with if your concern is getting 'in shape'.....a balanced diet of normal food
will build your muscles if you lift....supplements just make your diet
more expensive.....

Hey man, If it has creatine in it, stay away from it. It will be hard on your kidneys. My kidney enzymes were elevated when I took creatine. Good luck!

Mike Mentzer

Mike's Physique Was the Result of his Heavy Duty Training Techniques

The Legacy of Mike Mentzer
Mike Mentzer Training Video
Mike Mentzer was born in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, and was something of a bodybuilding renaissance man. Renowned as much for his vocabulary and propensity to quote the philosophy of Ayn Rand as he was for the dimensions of his Herculean physique, Mentzer established himself first as a bodybuilding champion and then as a scholar of the sport.
Mentzer created quite a lot of commotion with his Heavy Duty training concepts. Mike said that all bodybuilders were overtraining and this was slowing down their progress, and while most bodybuilders like Arnold were training for 2 or more hours a day 6 days a week and doing 20 or more sets per body part, Mike was only doing 30 minutes 3 to 4 times a week and growing like a weed!
Mike Mentzer's Competition History
1976 IFBB Mr. America
1977 IFBB North American Championships
1978 IFBB USA vs. the World (Hvywt.)

After retiring from competitive bodybuilding Mike became one of the most successful bodybuilding trainers ever, many of his clients gained 30 pounds of muscle in 3 to 4 months of working with him.
Success stories like the one below were common.
"Since I started 3 months ago I have gained 23 pounds of muscle, I look like I just went through a complete physical metamorphosis! I don't know what my exact body fat percentage was when I started with Mike's training. All I know is my waist size has gone down 2 inches from a 34 to a 32 inch waist and now that I have more muscle I eat more calories because my metabolism has increased. Strength increases have been phenomenal, going up on major multi-joint exercises like squats, deadlifts and dips anywhere between 35 to 50 percent increases. As Mike pointed out with strength increases so will muscle size."
Ali
Sadly since Mike Mentzer died a few years ago, it was impossible to see him in the gym and have him train you - until now. With the magic of video you can be in the gym with Mike and learn all his secrets!
Mike Mentzer's friend and colleague, Val Segal comments on the last days of Mike Mentzer and what is next for Mike's legacy.
Q. With Mike and Ray Mentzer's tragic deaths, our readers would like to know about last days of the legendary brothers. Let's start by acquainting them with you.
A. My name is Val and I am Mike's close friend, pupil and protégé. I met Mike seven years ago in Gold's Gym in Venice, when I was one of his numerous in-gym clients. After exercising 5 times per week with a little or no progress, I decided to modify my training and hired Mike to train me. After 3 months of Mike's supervision, I gained 40 pounds of pure muscle and increased my strength with Mike's encouragement, cognized philosophy and high-intensity training theory. We developed a great friendship and he appointed me to consult people over the phone on the subject of High-Intensity Training.
A couple of years ago, with Mike's patronage, I started my own personal training business; being occupied with his magazine writings and other businesses, he finished training people and asked me to supervise all of his in-gym clients.
Q. A lot of rumors circulate in connection with the deaths of both brothers. Was it caused by health problems or suicide?
A. I can't believe some people are making unverified statements about suicide. I spent the last hours with Mike and Ray, and I can assure that they both died of natural causes. There was a history of heart disease in the Mentzer family.
Q. Tell us about "Mike Mentzer's HIT Exercise DVD"?
A. On the day we finished filming "Mike Mentzer's HIT Exercise DVD". Tragically, a few hours later Mike passed away in his sleep. We now have bonus footage called "Behind the Scenes of Mike Mentzer's HIT Exercise Video".
In this exclusive footage you will spend the last moments with Ray and Mike behind the scenes of the original video. Witness incredible interviews, funny moments, and hear Mike gossip about such celebrities as Frank Zane, Dorian Yates and Joe Weider.
No retakes, no music, no editing; just the row footage of the man you've learned to respect as the lone voice of reason, truth and integrity within the sport.
It was the final chapter of Mike's lifework on the subject of High-Intensity Training.
Q. What was it like to work with Mike and Ray on this project?
A. Ironically, we almost changed the day of the shoot for the following Saturday, since World Gym backed out on us in the last moment. On Wednesday, June 6th Mike called me and asked me to call World Gym. I called Joe Gold's office and they have told me that we couldn't use their facility for the film. Mike suggested waiting a few days until we'll find another gym. However, I insisted finishing on Saturday; he gave up and told me, if I will find the gym, he'll be more than happy to star in it.
I contacted Angel City Fitness and International Star Productions, and scheduled filming for Saturday. The entire production took more than 5 hours. Everyone worked extremely hard on this project, however all of us had a terrific time and everything went just as planned. After the shoot, I treated Mike and Ray for dinner in their favorite restaurant in Los Angeles. We were very excited about the video and Mike stated, "It will be the best training video of all time!" After dinner, they gave me friendly hugs and thanked me for one of the most enjoyable days in their lives.
Q. This is an incredible story and great news for Mike Mentzer's fans and entire bodybuilding world. Was anyone else starring in the video?
A. Markus Reinhardt, an inspiring young bodybuilder, who possesses thick, heavy, densely developed muscles reminiscent of Casey Viator. We caught Markus just couple of weeks away from one of the most prestigious bodybuilding competitions held in Miami, Florida.
Q. Everyone knows about controversial placing at 1980 Mr. Olympia. Did Mike and Arnold ever make peace?
A. Arnold's assistant emailed Mike with a message from Arnold. Arnold was concerned about Ray's health conditions and tried to offer help. For those of you who don't know, Ray had a severe kidney problem. Arnold even wanted to come over to Ray's apartment and offer help personally. At some point Mike spoke to Arnold over the phone and was very touched by Arnold's kindness and concerns. Despite differences of opinions in the past, Mike always stated that Arnold was the greatest bodybuilder of all time and his contributions to the s port are enormous. During the shoot Mike has told me that he would like to have a reunion with Arnold on this videotape.
Q. We would like to thank you for this interview and for keeping Mike's legacy on the subject of High-Intensity Training alive.

Joel marions xtreme fat loss diet is very effective!
It goes like this!

Day 1 (Fast Day): Do a 3rd workout on your FAST DAY. I just go
for a 30 minute walk outside or on some trails in the sun. This
is the "fat-burning day" because your insulin levels are low
enough to allow for maximum fat burning while retaining muscle.

Day 2 (Shake Day): Buy yourself a DELICIOUS tasting protein
powder for your Protein Shake only days. My first three shakes
are Vanilla protein powder and rasberries plus bannas. My last
three protein shakes are chocolate protein powder and almond
butter or natural peanut butter.

Day 3 (Moderate Carb Day): Go out for breakfast on the Moderate
Carb day. Flavia and I always get a big veggie omelet with ham
and Ii'll have the potatoes and rye bread with natural peanut
butter since I can have moderate carbs this day.

Day 4: (Protein Only Day): The hardest day for me is this day.
Only protein and veggies. I eat a lot of hardboiled eggs on this
day, marinated fish and veggies and chicken and veggies. This is
supposed to be your off day but you can sneak in an extra cardio
session if you want to lose fat faster.

Day 5 (CHEAT DAY!!!!): You know what to do! Eat your heart
out. I usually eat a few chocolate banana peanut butter muffins
and a few huge oatmeal cookies in the morning. I usually order a
large pizza at some point during this day and do my best to
include some ice cream as well. Have yourself a BIG workout too
this day.

Hi Charles,

Thanks, and thanks to those of you who e-mailed me to give me some suggestions.

Yes, ideally I would like to do both bodybuilding and running, so I know I will never gain a lot of bulk that way, and I'm ok with that.

With the universal at the pool I am able to do flat bench press, lat pull downs, rowing, bicept curls, shrugs, leg lifts, military press, tricep pulldowns(might be the wrong term), roman chair and sit ups (which I've been told I need to change to crunches) and a couple other exercises. I'll check out your website tonight and see what I can add.

My diet is pretty good, it is the mid morning and mid afternoon snacks that I need to read up on. I am just eating trail mix those times.

For the 3 squares I am doing the dividing your plate idea (half the plate veggies, quarter protein, quarter carbs) let me know if that is a reasonable way to go.

For right now, I will spend my time reading the web pages you guys suggested and modify my program from there.

Thanks again for getting me started.

Wayne

Please don't tell me this is going to turn into drama central. Perhaps I didn't understand what this group was about.  Can't we just all get along? Yes, I had to go there. I've posted workouts that I've done, but they are on my site.

hey Ran,
not to much goes on here muscle wise cause i've been a member for a while now and people seem to hate gays, fat people, ugly people and such...never mind trying to help the over weight person to reach his/her goals, or just get on with health and well being instead of sniffing out the gays...why sniff em out anyway?. I've posted my work out routine (sp) on here 2-3 times inorder to give encouragement to those who are having a hard time, I"m 45 and in awesome shape, so to those who are here to better their bodies we have something in common, for the rest of you... well deaf ears here...

>Just recieved an e-mail from a member about stinking faggots and not wanting them in this group.  I joined this group for exercise information and so on, not an exercise in hatred and intolerance. .  I am gay, but that just is the way I am, I want to build my body the best as I can...period.  That is the only reason I joined this  group, to learn and improve myself.  I would no longer want to be a part of this group if that's the overall feeling...if so, then please remove me from the group.  AND BY THE WAY...most child molesters and rapists are found to be STRAIGHT but that did not stop me from wanting to be part of this group.  Whoever sent those pics should not have done so, but there are all types in all groups and offending others is just wrong...Hating on the other hand is ignorant and completely destructive.
